Avon, Colorado- Complete weekend guide

We traveled into the mountains this past weekend to ski Beaver Creek’s opening weekend! It was the coziest weekend at the Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa sipping wine by the fire and relaxing in the hot tubs. I can’t wait to share my favorite place to stay, shop and eat in Avon, Colorado with you!

Stay at the Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa

I am always on the hunt for a great dog friendly hotel. With a dog that weighs over 65 pounds, it can be hard to find a hotel that doesn’t have weight or breed restrictions. I was ecstatic when I found the Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa. Not only are they dog friendly but they have no weight restrictions!

When we checked in they had Luna on file and knew she would be with us. They offered a complimentary bed and food/water dishes for her. She loved that Westin dog bed so much she tried to bring it with her when we checked out!

The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa is in a great location to ski/snowboard or explore Beaver Creek Village, they have a gondola right on the hotel property! The room had USB ports to make it easy to charge your phone along with thick shades that kept the room dark in the morning. Being closer to the sun in the mountains, thick shades are necessary for sleeping in once the sun rises! The patios and balconies had incredible views of mountains and snow-covered greenery. The best part? The staff. From the valet and luggage staff to the bartenders at the hotel bar, everyone was kind and welcoming to myself and even more excited to pet Luna and give her plenty of treats!

The resort provides a great place for families and couples who want ski access, kitchens, and big rooms. I am thinking we might book our anniversary trip back to this resort in January!

Day 1

Ski Beaver Creek

We have the Epic Pass that allows us to ski some great Colorado mountains. Beaver Creek is one mountain that we had not tried yet. It was opening weekend at Beaver Creek and the best weekend of the year if you ask me! I love opening weekends because there is so much excitement in the air. Little ones in ski school giggling as they get on the chair lift for the first time, Beaver Creek handing out warm chocolate chip cookies and the click-click of ski boots on brick walking through Beaver Creek Villagee toward the gondola.

We spent the morning skiing and checking out all that Beaver Creek Mountain had to offer. Not only does the mountain have some great greens and blues but they have incredible food choices at the top of the mountain.

Grab a quick lunch at Pazzo’s Pizzeria

We needed a quick break from skiing so we looked up the best pizza in Avon, Colorado. Pazzo’s Pizzeria popped up and away we went. It’s a quaint family owned place and I definitely recommend the delicious pizza! They have a great menu full of pizza, calzones and pasta.

Hit the hot tub after a long day of skiing

After some more skiing, we hit the hot tubs back at The Westin Riverfront. The infinity hot tubs with views of the mountains were incredible. After skiing all day it was so nice to relax in the hot tub. Our muscles definitely needed it!

Dinner at Northside Kitchen

After the hot tub we got ready to go to dinner. We got a recommendation from the concierge and headed to Northside Kitchen. This was a great recommendation as we loved it! Not only was the food great but the atmosphere and service was amazing as well. If you’re looking for something different to eat vs. ski village food, I would definitely recommend here. I had the prime rib and Phil loved the trout, which was locally caught!

Grab a drink at The Lookout

The Lookout is a great bar located within the Westin Riverfront. After dinner we swung in and had a margarita. It was one of the best margaritas I’ve ever had. I’m usually more of a strawberry or flavored margarita kind of girl but if every lime margarita tasted like this one, I would be sold! The bartenders were friendly and there was even a small food menu making for a great location for a happy hour!

Day 2

Hike along Eagle River

After a great night of rest and relaxation, we hit the trails! Right behind the Westin Riverfront is the Eagle River and a great trail that runs along it. We took Luna on a walk along the river and the views were amazing. You could hear the water trickling down the stream as the snow glistened off the rocks. My favorite was the huge snow covered evergreens that lined the path.

Explore Beaver Creek Village

Beaver Creek Village was so cute! I love ski villages, they have the best food and best shopping. We took some time on Sunday to explore Beaver Creek Village. There were so many sweets and delicious coffee consumed. We also popped into a few different shops that weren’t the most dog friendly so we had to take turns going into shops and staying outside with Luna. There’s also ice skating in the village that looked so fun! Ice skating is definitely on our list for next time.

We loved our time in Avon, Colorado and you must add it to your list next time you’re planning a trip into the mountains! Make sure to watch my video from the trip on my YouTube Channel, I’ve had a lot of requests to start videos of our trips so I started a YouTube channel, make sure to like the video and subscribe!

Happy exploring!
